Letlive Rocks Warped Tour

When Los Angeles’ Letlive took the Monster Energy Stage at the Vans Warped Tour in Venture, Calif., Sunday, it was early.

11 a.m., for that matter.

But that wasn’t too early for the hardcore stalwarts to rage as hard as they ever had.  And that wasn’t too early for an enthusiastic crowd to conjure up a frenetic mosh pit.  In fact, Letlive’s set was one of the most passionate of the entire festival.

Throughout their stint on Warped Tour, the band has been riding the high of an upcoming July 8 release of a new record – The Blackest Beautiful – and a couple of those fresh tracks made their way into Letlive’s show.

Frontman Jason Aalon Butler was certainly a catalyst for the craziness.  The vocalist performed on every part of the stage, jumping on the drum riser, stepping out on the front barricade and even running to an adjacent building to do some backflips off a wall.

His throaty shrieks were complemented by guitarist Jeff Sayhoun, whose dive bombs on his EVH Wolfgang added ear-opening accents to the performance.

“Banshee (Ghost Fame)” was one that many sang along to, as it is Letlive’s lead single off The Blackest Beautiful.

The quintet also drew heavily from their breakthrough 2011 album Fake History, which yielded an epic live version of “Renegade 86’” that saw Butler run into the audience to join the mayhem.

Even though it was early, Letlive’s Warped Tour performance provided a perfect wake-up call.
