Phil Sgrosso / As I Lay Dying

Since joining San Diego metal band AS I LAY DYING at the age of 18, guitarist Phil Sgrosso has honed his creative talents as the band’s chief songwriter since 2005’s Shadows Are Security. His work with the band extends from solely instrumentation, lending his abilities to the production side on the band’s subsequent releases.

As a musician who always strives to develop his sound, Phil signed on to EVH because “the 5150 III covers the dynamic range that I need in an amp. It is perfectly suited for modern heavy metal, and offers clarity like none other.”

Throughout his tenure with AS I LAY DYING, the band has been named “Artist of the Year” at the San Diego Music Awards in 2005, 2007, and 2008; received the “Ultimate Metal God” award from MTV2 in 2007; and was nominated for a Grammy Award for the song “Nothing Left” in 2008. Through five studio albums and one split release, AS I LAY DYING has sold more than 1,000,000 albums worldwide, with their recent DVD This Is Who We Are being certified Gold within one month of its release. AS I LAY DYING’s fifth studio effort, The Powerless Rise, was released in May 2010 and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200.
